Concentration Camps

During the Holocaust, Jews were sent to concentration camps or labor camps. Some of these camps were worst than others. Here are the top 5 worst concentration camps.

Auschwitz-Birkenau

Auschwitz is one of the camps with the most deaths. It was located in Poland where 1.1 million people died. 90% that were killed were Jews and the other 10% were Poles, Soviets, Romani, Sinti, Jehovah's Witnesses, gays, and one that had a mix of German blood. The causes of the deaths in this camp was mainly gassing, however it was also caused by overwork, malnutrition, poor conditions, inhumane treatment, and infectious diseases.

Treblinka

This was one of the first concentration camps, so it was not meant for any killing. However Treblinka was made for death. This camp was located in the northeast of Warsaw. 70,000 handicapped German men, women, and children were killed in Aktion T4. Aktion T4 was for killing the weaks. In Treblinka I, Jews and Gypsies worked there. After they die, they're body gets sent to Treblinka II. 700,000 to 900,000 Jews and about 2,000 Gypsies were killed in this camp. This was the second camp that has the most death rates, after Auschwitz.

Bełżec

In this camp, it was mainly built for killing Jews so the Nazis could "Germanize" the area. It was opened on March 17, 1942. There were German Jews that were sent here for slave labor in order to be prepared for any invasions of Russia. Jews and Poles were killed because of an order Himmler gave out so there would be room for German Christian immagrants in October 1941. 500,000 to 600,000 Jews, Poles, Russians, and Gypsies died in this camp.

Chelmno

Local non-Jewish Poles were killed in order to "Germanize" the area. More Jews and Gypsies were put here after Germany expanded. However they were all from specific locations such as, Austria, Bohemia, Germany, Hungary, Luxemburg, and Moravia. Not only was this a death camp, it also became a place for medical experimentations. 340,000 people dies at this camp.
